Urban Music
The term urban music or urban contemporary was coined by New York DJ Frankie Crocker in the mid 1970s. Urban playlist is primarily a mix of hip hop, rap, contemporary R&B, and, sometimes, Caribbean music such as reggae, soca and reggaeton.
Although the term “urban contemporary” has become heavily associated with contemporary R&B, and is often used as a synonym to describe the genre which ic geared towards adult African-American audiences, and therefore, the artists that create this type of music are most often African-American themselves.
